For those who do not know, Wendy Landry is possibly the only dedicated velvet-weaver in Canada. This is an opportunity for those who have not seen how velvet is woven to learn more about it, and how it can be woven on both a draw-loom and simpler counterbalanced looms. Wendy is also adept at the ingenious techniques used by Coptic weavers for weaving brocades, tapestries, and pile textures.

  • The Berkeley Residence, 2633 Gladstone Street

Located across the street from a Sobeys parking lot.  You can park in front of the building (there are several parking slot along the driveway), on the street, or at Sobeys.

We will be in the fairly large activity room.  When you come in you will need to sign in at the reception desk, and wear a mask. There are lots of chairs and there will be a table or two to display finished items. If it's a warm day we may move onto the patio which is mostly shady in the afternoon, and usually has a breeze - we'll hope it doesn't rain!

I plan on having a floor loom (the old demo loom) there and intend to take my rigid heddle loom and spinning wheel (despite the fact that I haven't used any of those things successfully since my stroke).  I hope you are able to make it and bring a small loom, drop spindle or wheel.

No special skills or knowledge are required, just enthusiasm for fibre crafts and a willingness to talk about what we do. Several of the residents have told me they are looking forward to our demo, so I expect there will be a good turnout of interested observers.
